Into the Wild – The Wonders of Borneo

So here I was, in the middle of the Bornean rainforest thousands of miles away from home and I couldn’t help but appreciate this vast green wonderland. Each corner that I stood and faced, from the north, east, south and west was rich with biodiversity that I previously dreamed of seeing. I was really far from home and as you read this you are probably wondering what brought this young lad near to the edge of the world? As part of an overseas field course opportunity, budding biologists (myself included) were granted this once in a lifetime opportunity to sink our teeth into Bornean conservation, ecology and its beautiful culture.

A Pack of Dreams

As I currently sit on the front seat of a late night National Express coach from Cheltenham to London, I gaze at a beautiful full moon reflecting its light across the fields of the Cotswolds. It’s Easter Saturday and after a long shift at work today it’s finally time to head back home, far away from my current reality where I am pursuing my first bachelor’s degree in Animal Biology. Meeting Sir David Attenborough

I remember tuning into the television when I was younger and being absolutely fascinated with the Late Steve Irwin’s conservation awareness with his programmes ‘Croc Files’ and ‘The Crocodile Hunter Diaries’ on Animal Planet. I was merely a child and I was so eager to do everything that he did, even if it was a little bit reckless. I was so involved in those programmes back then and I know deep down in my heart that it has shaped me into the man I am today striving for a career in wildlife biology and conservation. While watching these programmes as a child, I eventually came across David Attenborough’s programmes with the BBC and it absolutely changed everything! Wildlife ACT – South Africa 2018

The sole purpose of this blog post today is to share my experience in South Africa with Wildlife ACT that I carried out after I finished my first year at the University of Gloucestershire. I figured that I needed to obtain some field experience early to make my chances of employability higher after I graduate and decided to go overseas for the summer.
